Shorten Time with Permit Before License for Teens

I have a concern with how long it takes a teenager to get their license. I am a 17 year old from Florida balancing two schools and a job. Regardless of being a 17 year old, people like me are required by law to carry a permit for a full year. This makes it dificult when you have no transportation. I completely understand for somebody 15 years of age to be required by law to carry a permit for a full year, but I do not understand why it’s the exact same for a 16 or 17 year old. Especially when we’re maturing, we’re getting to the point in life where transportation matters because we have jobs and schools to go to. I understand that practicing matters one hundred percent, but most states already allow 16 and 17 year olds to only wait half a year to attain their intermediate license. However in states like Florida you’re required to wait a full year, I find it pointless for a 17 year old to get their learners permit when their priority is transportation. I personally believe that the time should be changed. I believe in keeping a 15 year old with a learners permit for a full year, but I believe that a 16 year old should be required to have their permit for only 6 months and ideally 3 months for a 17 year old. Or I could suggest that the time is dropped and 50 hours of behind the wheel training is strictly enforced. If you support my idea please sign this petition.
