Robert Mcdonnell started this petition to The Federal Government of Canada

Formaldehyde is classified in the European Union and the United Kingdom as a carcinogen and 'suspected of causing cancer' - as such it is heavily regulated with its use being banned across many industries. However, since the long term adverse effects of formaldehyde exposure have yet to be proven, I am calling for a blanket ban on the use of formaldehyde within Canada until it can be proven it has no long-term health effects on humans.

In 2012 my wife died from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) "the cruel disease" having been diagnosed with no known cause after being heavily exposed to the poison while working in a facility that used formaldehyde as a disinfectant with little to no safety procedures in place. Harvard Professor Dr. Marc Weisskopf has stated that formaldehyde exposure is the probable cause of ALS though it has yet to be proven. Formaldehyde kills everything it comes into contact with but because there are no tracers in place there is no proof that it kills people.

Outside of workplace exposure and according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), formaldehyde can be found in resins used in the manufacture of composite wood products such as hardwood and plywood as well as preservatives used in household products such as paints and cosmetics.

We need to put a stop to the use of this fatal toxin and if it is to be used a tracer must be put in place in order to show that it is and has been a silent killer.
