Public broadcasting of Village Meetings

In the wake of the call for increased governmental transparency, technology has permitted ease of access to an ever increasing population of community members. Through digital video recording and automated broadcasting, the Village of Floral Park has a tremendous opportunity to transmit the bi-weekly Board of Trustee meetings on our local government-access television station, 4 Village Studios (4VS). This project would be without ANY cost to the Village or residents. Mr. Felix Procacci of Just The Facts Media has offered to provide the video recordings he already completes to 4VS, unedited, and formatted ready for broadcasting.
According to the 4VS website, "[4VS is a] government access television facility producing community interest programming with local hosts, producers, crews and staff. All 4VS programs are non-commercial and emanate from a governmental, educational or cultural derivation. 4VS programs attempt to inform, educate and entertain viewers while promoting the diverse talents and contributions of community groups, organizations and individuals. .." We believe that the request to broadcast the bi-weekly Board of Trustee meetings falls within the purview of the aim of government access television.
Broadcasting the Board of Trustee meetings would provide a broader range of civic engagement, increase awareness of the business and activities of the Incorporated Village of Floral Park and would provide reasonable accommodations to those residents who do not attend these meetings because of mobility or health impairments, but still wish to be engaged in their civic matters. We also do hereby request that these meetings be broadcast at a regularly scheduled day and time for reliability AND that they be aired within the same week as the meeting occurrence.
We do not see any reason to deny this request.
Therefore, we the petitioners, do hereby request that the Executive Division of the studio permit broadcasting of the bi-weekly Board of Trustee meetings of the Incorporated Village of Floral Park. The Executive Division of 4 Village Studio is comprised of Mayor Henry J. Schreiber of Bellerose Village, Mayor Dominick A. Longobardi of Floral Park, Mayor Geoffrey N. Prime of South Floral Park and Mayor Michael Ororato of Stewart Manor.
