The EU must rent holiday parks to shelter all entering refugees
Why this petition matters

The current refugee crisis poses a significant demand on European housing facilities. Fully operational holiday parks and resorts have a vast potential to mitigate this crisis. Some park owners have already provided help, but the need is larger. We petition EU leaders to make sufficient funds available to distribute these comfortable holiday beds to refugees and provide fair compensation to all park and resort owners in Europe. With enough support for this idea from EU citizens, we offer this petition to the EU commission.
According to Statista, there are about 30 000 holiday parks across the Union. With an average of 50 comfortable beds a park (a low estimate), this would amount to 1.5 million beds where people could stay for as long as necessary. Giving our holiday houses to refugees would mean that European citizens will not be able to stay in a holiday resort for as long as refugee numbers are high. Other options, such as hotels and campsites, would remain available. It would most likely mean that holidays inside the EU become more expensive than under ‘normal’ conditions.
Why is this a good plan?
It’s a completely up, running and proven infrastructure that can be used immediately. It would relieve pressure of the boiling refugee crisis by:
- Immediate safety and comfort for a large portion of potentially traumatized refugees including outside playgrounds for children.
- Reducing costs for construction and administration.
- Providing the option for refugees to stay together in larger groups with friends and family.
- Guaranteed seasonally independent income for park owners and employees for the duration of the stay.
- European strength through a united small sacrifice.
By signing this petition, I agree that EU leaders must work towards the solution of opening up European holiday parks to shelter the millions of refugees who currently seek refuge in the European Union.
