Darren Ackers started this petition to The English Football Association

Incorrect and unjust refereeing decisions are a blight on the English Football League and yet referees face no action against themselves for doing a bad job. In what other line of work, these days, are there no repercussions for ineptitude or poor performance ? Not many that I can think of. I suggest a 'league table' for referees where they get their performances analysed (100% fairly using video footage) and are awarded or deducted points based on their capability to make correct decisions relating to the laws of the game. At the end of the season referees are promoted or relegated to work in the actual Football League (The Premier League/The Championship/Division One etc.) that they have been promoted or relegated into. The fact that referees face no consequences for actions that have a significant impact (not least financially, which affects the interests of shareholders) is barely believable in this day and age. Referees now have the help of VAR to eliminate judgement errors and can rely on this to indicate what decisions they should make during the match. Likewise, VAR can be used to evaluate refereeing decisions in their appraisals which could take place during the following week.
