Keep Chamkhar Chhu free-flowing

Keep Chamkhar Chhu free-flowing
Why this petition matters
Eighty hydropower projects are planned on a landmass that is only a little over 38,000 sq. km. These projects entail the damming of every single of the country’s five major river systems - displacing human settlements and wildlife and causing ruinous environmental disasters. The ongoing projects have already caused the country to be burdened with unserviceable debt obligations that is in excess of the country’s entire GDP.
This petition is to request the Royal Government of Bhutan to allow the country’s only river that has not yet been dammed – the Chamkhar Chhu – to flow freely till the end of eternity. And, that such a commitment be made to honor the country’s IVth King Jigme Singye Wangchuck – the environmental champion without parallel – whose conservation stewardship has ensured that the country’s forest cover remain in excess of 70%.
