Rachel McCaw started this petition to The Education minister Peter Weir and

Due to the outbreak of Covid-19 last year, the education system has suffered greatly and the target of this has been students who have been placed under immense pressure all year round.

As of this morning, 06/01/21 the education minister has announced that A-Levels and GCSE examinations have been cancelled. All though this is outstanding news for those course Students, once again BTEC and CTEC students have been left in the dark. As a BTEC student I am expected to take my exams and I have no help with extra marks or special consideration which should be at least a minimum offer.

The decision has been left to schools and colleges to decide wether their BTEC and CTEC examinations go ahead. This is an all daunting decision to be placed upon schools and colleges and have been asked to act in their students best interests. This makes this even more unfair to students as already some BTEC and CTEC courses don’t require examinations and some do, now we’re going to have only some schools taking part in exams and some not?

This is entirely unfair and further more possibly dangerous to our health and well-being. How can students be told it is not safe to come into school and to stay home but expect a select amount of students must travel to sit examinations, which even with correct PPE and Social distancing isn’t always completely effective not to mention most students use and rely on public transport.

I can now only hope colleges and schools re-think their decisions or the education minister Peter Weir takes a stand and announces an official cancellation.
