Problem
In recent years, knife rules at Dublin have fluctuated greatly, creating much confusion. This is a proposal for new handbook rules regarding the carrying and possession of knives at the Dublin School.

Solution
You can help by signing this petition to change the school's knife rules. Here's the proposal:

----------------------------------
Knives are tools, and as tools, must be treated with respect. Students should not use knives for tasks other than their intended purpose (as tools). Examples of this kind of use would include ‘playing’ with knives, carving into the property of another, or brandishing knives.

Knives adapted for use primarily as weapons, including, but not limited to: switchblades, “butterfly knives,” dirks/daggers, automatic opening/ spring assisted knives, and spears are strictly prohibited. If a student is found to have one of the mentioned knives, it should be confiscated by the dean of students.

If a student is to keep/carry a knife, they should keep it in good condition, so it doesn't pose a safety risk to them. They should keep it clean and free of rust, etc.. Students should speak with the dean of students to make sure their knife meets all listed criteria.

Any student who chooses to keep/carry a knife must respect the safety, both emotional, and physical of their peers. Any student who acts in a way with knives that would cause an ordinary person to fear for their safety will be subject to disciplinary action.

Swiss army knives and similar, multi tools, and folding blades of under three inches in blade length are allowed.
