In the Fall semester of 2018 Bennett College was hit with a financial hardship that required the institution to raise 5 million dollars in less than 3 months. Bennett College serves as one of two all female HBCU's located in Greenboro, NC. The news of the financial hardship spread like a wild fire on social media thanks to Brooke A. Kane who currently serves as the 39th Miss Bennett College. Along with Bennett College faculty and staff, Ms. Kane worked tirelessly to make sure that everyone knew about what Bennett was going through and how all donations would help to keep the doors open. Backing her was many of her fellow "Sister Queens", (HBCU Queen) from other schools sharing and posting. By the 1st of February, Bennett College had exceeded their financial goal over 3 million dollars and they are able to continue to provide great education to the Bennett Belles. This would not have happened if Brooke did use her platform to spread the word. The turning point regarding the Ebony Campus Queens Competition happened when several HBCU Queens took a stand with Bennett College opted to gracefully hand over their votes for the Competition to Miss Bennett College, so that she may have a chance to represent her college on such a large platform. Ebony Magazine has a responsibility to the HBCU Community to include Miss Bennett College in their 2018 spread. She is the true definition of a HBCU Queen using her platform to spread the good news about HBCU's. Ebony Magazine please include Brooke A. Kane as an Honorary Ebony Campus Queen.
