Tell Homeland Security/FEMA: Suspend the Jones Act for Puerto Rico
This petition had 2,212 supporters
The Jones Act prevents foreign ships from traveling between 2 US ports consecutively, such as moving goods from one US port to another. This prevents foreign ships from helping out Puerto Rico by moving materials between the US and the island. The administration has suspended the Jones Act for Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, helping Houston and Florida. But they are unwilling to do the same for Puerto Rico, which needs this assistance much more direly. The repeal or suspension for Puerto Rico is both about helping the island in this disaster and aiding the longterm recovery. Join John McCain and others in calling for the change.
