A CALL FOR A REVIEW INTO THE CURRENT BILL FOR THE 2022 ACADEMIC YEAR- COLLEGE OF HEALTH, YAMFO

With respect to the bill (Ref. COHY/ACC/FS/21/011 and dated 29th November, 2021) issued by the administration through the SRC to the student populace of College of Health, Yamfo; the student body of the college wants to state emphatically that we are aggrieved by the sudden unbearable increase in the fees issued to students for the 2022 academic year for levels 200 to 300 and as such reject to make payments as demanded by the school’s administration but call for a prompt review into the issue of billing in line with the regulations of the Ministry of Health and all governing stake holders of the college. The students demand a total reduction of some increments and for that matter contentious charges for which students are required to make in fulfilling their financial obligations as collegiate.

Below is a breakdown and questionable increments of the charges of a comparison of last academic year’s school fees and current one.

The Red flags explained;

Upon consultations and comparisons made against the bills issued to for 2022 academic year and that of the immediate past year’s bill, we arrived at a compromise that there are a lot of charges way over board with a whooping 14% and 31%  increments for 1st and 2nd semesters respectively. Parents and Guardians, and as a matter of fact some Students who are caretakers of themselves  are in this new academic year going to pay an average increment of 23% from what payable last year within this short stretch of time.

·         Field/Clinical Practice has seen a 50% increment. This means that, now students will pay the Gh₵ 225.00 again in the second semester whereas that charge only applied for the first semester last year.

·         Development Fund has seen a 50% increment. This means that, now students will pay the Gh₵ 200.00 again in the second semester whereas that charge only applied for the first semester last year.

·         Ropat System has seen a 50% increment. This means that, now students will pay the Gh₵ 40.00 again in the second semester whereas that charge only applied for the first semester last year.

·         University Service Charge has seen a 50% increment. This means that, now students will pay the Gh₵ 100.00 again in the second semester whereas that charge only applied for the first semester last year.

·         Students pay Gh₵ 500.00 yearly for practical materials yet end up buying gloves and sanitizers at health facilities before the can have their end of semester clinical practice done. So the question, where did those monies go? Educational visit charge of Gh₵ 300.00 is a big blow to the students. A reflection on the last year’s bill brings to light that the current level 200 students who not long enough where charged same amount for educational visit last year actually never embarked on any visit. So the question again, where did those monies go?

There is a long list of why, how and where vis-à-vis the exorbitant bill issued to the students for the 2022 academic year. Considering the comparisons and increments in the table above, we the students of the college deem it very logical to petition for an appreciable reduction of the bill to curtail the burden and struggle it will bring on parents and guardians in paying the school fees. In a college with over 700 continuing students, the aggregate of these charges by the number of students really questions the works that these monies are meted out for.

Dear students of College of Health, Yamfo, Parents and Guardians, all Students of other Health Training Institutions, all stake holders and to all whom it may concern;

Please let us all be in one accord to have the Administration of College of Health, Yamfo treat its students fairly with regards to the veracious fees by the Ministry of Health that students are expected to pay rather than sky rocketing the fees for any nobelesse oblige developmental agenda because the students are beneficiaries of the amenities of the society for which in this instance the school is one. Students should not quit school because of inflated fees.

LET US SEEK CLARITY IN OUR OWN INTEREST, PEOPLE!!!

#FAIR FEES FOR ALL!!!
