REFORM AND REGULATION OF THE TRANSPORT INDUSTRY IN IRELAND FOR THE PROTECTION OF DRIVERS

I want to start first and foremost by stating thatci am in no way bigotted or racist in any way shape or form, but i will speak the truth.....
The transport industry in Ireland survives on the exploitation of daily pay rates, most employers take advantage of daily rates by working drivers for up to 15 hours a day to the point where that rate breaks down to well below the statutory minimum wage of €10.20, employers then counter that with the subsistance allowance to make it seem as though the driver is being well paid when in fact it is expressly forbidden in the agreement between the Irish road haulage association and the revenue commissioners to use it for that purpose, There is a shortage of Heavy goods drivers in Ireland not because Irish drivers are unwilling to drive anymore, but because they are unwilling to be taken advantage of anymore. For years we were forced to either accept this method of pay or be told there were a dozen drivers from further afield who would snap at it, Our industry needs regulation and proper oversight to protect the rights of drivers, what we do not need is another influx of outsourced workers willing to work for a fraction of the living wage just because it is worth more than that in there home economies.
