Give ALL Parents who travel for work EQUAL RIGHTS
There are a growing number of fragmented families in the United Kingdom where one parent is the primary provider and carer. A number of these parents are enterprising and entrepreneurial and have to juggle the commitments of getting their children to and from school with supporting their families through a wide variety of jobs.
Occasionally the work they do requires them to work away and the logistics and costs of childcare may prevent them from taking the opportunity because if they take their children with them they face a fine and/or risk losing their child's place in the school. Because of this household income is compromised and reliance on the state is more likely.
However families of certain Ethnicities (Gypsies, Irish Travellers, Roma, Occupational Travellers and Circus People) DO have the right to protect their child's place at school.
The Education Act 1996 Section 444(6) states that if "The Parent/carer is engaged in a trade or business of such a nature that requires them to travel from place to place" that they are entitled to work with the school to educate their children while they are away on business and return their child to the school.
But parents of other Ethnicities with the exact same working arrangements do not have the same rights.
This petition seeks to support ALL parents who need to travel for work with their children to be able to work with their childrens' schools to educate them during the period of travel and have their place at the school protected while they do so.
