Nap-time has existed for years now but has only been a part of our lives since early childhood. Nap-time or “quiet time” was a time to cool down, unwind and relax or recharge for the rest of the busy day ahead. As life goes on and becomes more stressful and demanding it only makes sense to have a time like this for even older students in secondary schooling to receive this treatment. It may seem childish but that ten to fifteen minutes of mediation and sleep can really make a difference in a young persons life. With mental health on the rise and the external pressures such as exams, naplan, ATAR, learning how to drive etc... all of these can weigh on an individual. Having some time out in the day to be by themselves to re-evaluate what’s going on in their lives and to be more open with themselves could really help. 

Obviously there may be some flaws in the system but I propose that if action is taken nap-time occurs either before school, in-between breaks or just before the end of the school day. How it will run is simple, phones, iPads and other electronic devices must be confiscated. As harsh as it sounds it’s a time to unwind and relax having a phone or device near will cause distraction and can be taken advantage of ruining the whole experience. Bluetooth speakers and quiet music is a much better solution to this, other activities such as yoga or therapeutic colouring in or just sleeping for ten to fifteen minutes can really help a young person’s mental health.
