Paramedics are highly trained NHS employees. They are invaluable and often first contact in an emergency. A grant similar to nursing staff's would encourage more people to train for this worthwhile career.
In my opinion, Paramedics are a vital link in the healthcare system and the fact that in order to qualify as a Paramedic is now a full University Degree Course is a validation of their importance of this role. Since paramedic students are required to complete full University coursework and on the job placements, just as nursing and midwifery students do as part of the degree course, then I strongly feel that they should be paid the same bursary amount per year as nursing and midwifery students. The importance of the role that Paramedics play within the healthcare system in Scotland should not be underestimated. This is a highly skilled job and the students should be helped in every way possible to succeed in qualifying without the added stress of struggling to pay their way through University.
