There is a lack of representation in the products that are offered to Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) patients who are receiving healthcare in the UK. 'Nude coloured' items supplied by the NHS such as prostheses, compression sleeves and hearing aids are not readily available in a range of colours to suit different skin tones, which is negatively impacting patient care.
People from BAME communities often face individual and societal challenges that can affect access to healthcare and overall mental and physical health. There needs to be greater inclusion and equality in the healthcare service that is provided.
This #NudeIsNotOneColour petition calls on the government to conduct a full independent review of the current availability of all ‘nude’ coloured products offered to NHS patients in the UK. Furthermore, the Department of Health and Social Care needs to put a plan in place to make it mandatory for these products to be available for patients in a range of different shades.
