The government are planning to change the age for free prescriptions from 60 to 66/67years in England in line with the state pension. Their rationale is that most people are still working after 60 and can afford to pay for prescriptions. For many women who have lost out on getting their state pension at 60 they may not all in gainful employment and if they are working they are still paying national insurance past the age that they thought they would.

This age group are also more likely to be taking regular medication and may not be able to afford to pay the prescription charge especially if they also raise the cost per item. Please support this petition. This will have a much bigger impact than most people would think and it could lead to more cost to the nhs with people neglecting their health due to cost.

England is already disadvantaged compared to Scotland and Wales when it comes to prescriptions charges and also in the access to Health and social care.

I personally take 6 different medications daily so at £9.38 per item every 2 months will impact greatly on my finances. I am  not alone in this situation and hope to get enough signatures to change this unfair change.
