Why this petition matters

Started by Lauren Skulley

Frasier Hall, as it currently stands, has two major wings. In one of these wings, which is primarily used by the music majors and affiliated students at the university, there are at least two gender-neutral bathrooms. However, this wing of the building is largely disconnected from the other side of the building creating accessibility and easement problems in regards to these bathrooms.

This petition proposes that the bathrooms located on either side of the Southern Wing of Frasier on the ground floor (the same hallway as Frasier 0005 and Frasier 0011) be changed to be gender-neutral.

Making these two bathrooms gender-neutral would allow the students, staff, and faculty on the more theatrically centered side of the hall to use the bathroom without having to 'commute' all the way to the other side of the hall. It would also create a more accessible bathroom for our differently-abled women who work on this side. Furthermore, it would provide a neutral space for trans and non-binary people to use the bathroom without having to make their way to the other side of the building. Creating these bathrooms does not take away from binary gendered spaces, as there are two just a floor above.

The creation of new gender-neutral bathrooms, therefore, poses more benefits than detractions, and we ask that they be rectified to create better accessibility and equity amongst our students.
