Рarticipation in the 2018 Olympic Games for the ice dancers from Denmark

With the help of this petition, fans of figure skating from around the world want to express their support to the athletes Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Nikolaj Sørensen, who are trying to participate at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Participation in the Olympic Games is the dream of every high level athlete, is the highest goal for these athletes. In addition, this is a great achievement for the country which the athlete represents, increasing the sports prestige and popularity. Also it is the subject for great pride of all the countries inhabitants.

For the first time in many years, a couple of ice dancers appeared in Denmark, who perform very well not only at European, but also at the world level - Laurence and Nikolaj.

This season they became the seventh among the best dance duos in Europe and the thirteenth among the strongest pairs of the world. This is a huge result for Denmark, it's a breakthrough.

According to the results of the 2017 ISU Figure Skating World Championships, Laurence and Nikolaj obtained the long-awaited and well-deserved Olympic license for their country Denmark whom they represent.

For the first time in 20 years, these athletes from Denmark can take part in the skating competitions at the Olympics. And not just participate, but perform at a high level among the world elite in this sport.

However, there is a serious problem: Laurence is a citizen of Canada, she does not have a Danish passport - and, due to this, she can not protect the honour of Denmark at the Olympic Games, because all participants of the Olympic Games must be citizens of the countries they represent.

Unless the IOC ( International Olympic Committee) decides otherwise.

Laurence and Nikolaj deservedly are loved by fans around the whole world. This couple has done a lot for the Danish sport, and will do even more if they have the opportunity to compete in the Olympics. They deserved it with their hard daily work, their talent and dedication.

Fans of Laurence and Nikolaj from Denmark and from around the world ask the IOC (International Olympic Committee) to allow Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Nikolaj Sørensen the participation in the 2018 Winter Olympics according to Chapter 5, rule 41(nationality of competitors), bye-law 4 of The Olympic Charter:

"Furthermore, in all cases in which a competitor would be eligible to participate in the Olympic Games, either by representing another country than his or by having the choice as to the country which such competitor intends to represent, the IOC Executive Board may take all decisions of a general or individual nature with regard to issues resulting from nationality, citizenship, domicile or residence of any competitor, including the duration of any waiting period."

We believe that Laurence together with Nikolaj, participating at the Olympic Games, will do a lot to raise the prestige and interest of the sport in Denmark and the whole world.
