Hello, we are a group of students that are pushing for change at The Culinary Institute of America!

One of the CIA's core values is Excellence. What else would you expect from the world's premier culinary school? Excellence is best described as “the quality of being outstanding or extremely good”

We strongly believe that this school is not living up to the standards of their core value “excellence” and after you see the living conditions that most incoming freshmen have to endure, we hope YOU will agree. For our safety, we have chosen to remain anonymous but would like to show you some of the conditions students are currently having to live within the freshman dorm. Some of the issues include but are not limited to,

Mold on the ceilings of the 3rd-floor bathrooms.
Bacteria build up in the sinks that result in black sitting water in the sinks.
Sitting stagnant water in our washing machines.
Bathrooms that are constantly either out of order.
Floors consistently flood and as a result leak to the dorms below.
We are constantly told by the administration that “we are aware of the issues and are currently working on it” which often translates to “ the bathrooms will be out of order until further notice.” Or that we simply need to fix the problems ourselves. Considering we pay up to $40.000 to attend this school we shouldn’t have to put up with these unacceptable living conditions.

We are asking for the CIA to reevaluate the solutions they have previously been using as we all have noticed they are not long lasting solutions. We are also asking for the CIA to look over the drainage system within Hudson Hall since there are so many issues with it which leads to more problems. Most importantly we need the CIA to understand that we will not stop pushing for the change so it will be easier if they reach out to us, as the students, instead of shoving the issues aside.
