To reduce the overconsumption of water in Bahrain, raise the prices at higher thresholds
Why this petition matters
The consumption of water in Bahrain is double that of the international average. Bahrain is a desert, so its consumption should be less than average, rather than more. This means that the people here waste large amounts of water.
Bahrain depends heavily on water desalination to make up for the lack of drinkable water. Water desalination is the process in which salt water is turned into fresh water. The problem it is that it's costly, it wastes a lot of energy, it's a huge threat to marine life, and it increases fossil fuel dependence which leads to climate change.
To solve this, the government can raise the prices of water at higher thresholds. This basically means that once a household uses a certain amount of water, an amount that is considered too much, they will have to pay more. This will cause people to try and reduce the amount of water they use, which means less water will be wasted. Because of this, the water consumption at Bahrain will be reduced by a large amount.
