James Stratton started this petition to Councillor Nick Kelly

Local councillor Mark Deacon has served over 800 residents in the local area just up until last week and took many actions to make the area safer for the residents including CCTV in Southway and better lighting in Tamerton Foliot. Mark has supported many residents from various backgrounds, races, religions and sexes and goes about his service without discrimination. He is also a good father, a family man and works as a staff nurse in a local nursing home.

Last week as a direct response to the suggestion of a 6pm curfew by the Baroness Jenny Jones he made a post that made light of the suggestion. Since then he has received accusations and numerous posts have been made accusing him of mocking not just women's and trans women's issues but the death of Sarah Everard's death. This is factually incorrect and an indirect link has been made when one wasn't intended.

In a time when people are divided more than ever through social media, the press and by politicians using tragic situations to further their own electability, its important that some common sense and compassion is shown and a better way of addressing the issues is presented rather than trying to have a servant of the community who does good cancelled. Understandably people are upset at the murder and the issues women have in feeling safe and receiving poor advice from the Met, but its important to be aware that the post was in relation to a suggestion rather than any of these serious issues which Mark has responded too and his actions over his term of councillor suggest that he isn't a misogynist and of the three local councillors is the one putting the work in.

Personally I'm not a member of the Conservative party and have no political affiliation but do worry as the other residents that Marks support to the community will be felt and he has support of many of the residents who feel he should be reinstated, especially in time when the pandemic has made life difficult for many of the residents.

My hope is that people who feel there is work to be done in the area to make things better can make suggestions and work with him and also have some compassion for Mark and exert some forgiveness if they feel strongly as now we have no one that is doing anything for the community. Its wise for people who are quick to criticise to put his principles before personality and judge him on his actions over the course of his time and not just on a post he has made.

Thanks for your time and support.
