Ending the use of the Hindu greeting "Namaste" being used as slang, catchphrase or slogan

Hi everyone,

I am trying to raise public awareness and also am hoping for support on ending a new trend I have noticed within parts of Vancouver.

Yoga is big in Kits and East Van and I think that is great. What is not great is taking a respected word used as a way to greet someone from the Hindu culture, Namaste, which means "I bow to you," and warping it into a catch phrase, slogan or slang.

I'm seeing it being warped into words that it does not represent what it stands for and I just don't understand how this okay.

I am asking the community to challenge themselves and the restaurants/shop owners to educate themselves on the origin of this word and what is truly stands for before you buy that shirt that says:

"Namaste bitches" or "Na'ma drink this wine"

Or ordering that dish called "Namayum"

Namaste does not symbolize a brand!

Thank you!
