Kia ora! For our Social Studies class, we are inquiring about the police being armed, being a public decision. In order to protect our Police officers and ensure the safety of the public, we want a public referendum regarding this decision. 

Due to recent events, there has been a lot of discussion regarding whether all police should carry firearms with them at all times. Many officers feel they are unable to protect themselves in dangerous situations as shown lately with some fatal attacks and murders on New Zealand Police Officers. However, in turn, if all of the New Zealand Police Force were to carry firearms, it raises the question of public safety and could potentially damage the relationship of trust between the New Zealand public and police. Therefore, this petition is to ask for your signature and therefore support in regarding the public should have a say on this social issue and be able to vote in a referendum. If so, please sign in support of this idea and all results will be sent to the Minister of Justice, Minister of Police and Commissioner of Police.
