We Did It! .... The City Built a Sidewalk on 64th Street from Cowles Montessori
This petition made change with 307 supporters!
64th Street just south of College is currently one of the busiest pedestrian streets in Windsor Heights, with kids walking to and from Cowles Montessori each weekday. Yet only the last half-block of 64th Street has an existing sidewalk, forcing kids to walk in the street.
With parked cars, north-bound traffic, and all parking lot traffic directed south, 64th Street's peak car traffic matches peak pedestrian-student traffic.
Having 3 year olds walk in a trafficked street is the least desirable way for them to get to school.
As more Cowles families purchase homes near the school, the number of kids walking increases each year. From distracted kids to distracted drivers, this increases the odds of a child/car accident.
We propose a sidewalk on the West side of 64th Street, from Del Matro to University to accomplish a few things:
1. Safety - for those that walk to and from school or cross traffic during pick up and drop off times. For the kids that have to stand to wait for buses, and other forms of transportation that are presenting standing on right of ways in snow and mud.
2. Health - the initiatives of the schools and parents are to get children back on bicycles and walking to their destinations instead of riding in cars.
Please specify if you are a resident of Windsor Heights! And thank you for your support or consideration!
I will deliver this to the Windsor Heights City Council as soon as possible.
