Choose a better location for West Kelowna proposed homeless shelter

For those who don’t know; there is a proposed 40 bed homeless camp to be set up on 1160 Stevens rd, I’m not debating that we desperately need this service but please consider the impact on the rosevalley, lakeview heights and west Kelowna estates neighbourhoods. Let’s try to be pro active to find a better location!!
This location is only 800 m to hudson road elementary school, next door to a daycare and after-school care program. It is car dependant score of 32, and a somewhat bike-able score 24, with a non existent transit option as they keep cutting the services in this area. There are no grocery or other long term services in the area, and across the street is a liquor store.
Be prepared this has the potential to be permanent just like the other facility they opened on brown rd. that was supposed to be temporary till April 2019, yet it’s still running. The Stevens road application is for 6 months which brings the site usable till June, 2020.
Build it they will come! But what happens to those who have shown up do they park their belongings at the site or on Stevens road? Do they seek shelter in nearby businesses? My inquiry to BC housing is still in progress.
Find a better location!!! Did you know chances are that insurance home and auto will go up, and there will be no additional policing. Rcmp confirm that crime statistics increase in areas within these centres. They also are already working at full capacity and there is no mention for an increase for bylaw or security services in the area!
We need to support our homeless population, let’s be creative and find a solution that would be better!
Please sign this petition and voice your concern and ideas of a solution to council via email to the city clerk no later than December 8, 4pm.
