Stop the Removal of Beloved Shoe Tree of Life!

Early this spring devastating news shocked a family in Scarborough. Cancer. Stage 4. It has been a heartbreaking journey and along the way pieces of joy and happiness have been created by friends and family to help provide strength for the coming days and months, none more powerful than the Shoe Tree of Life.
Friends and neighbours have all participated in creating this symbol of hope for Betty Anne and her loving family, who earlier this year laid to rest their dear Aunt Jerry who had her very own shoe tree which they can no longer visit and enjoy. The shoes that people bring and attach to the tree are a reminder of their presence in Betty Anne's life and journey.
Now the City of Toronto has decided to take the tree down. The tree itself died in 2012 and had been left untouched since it was removed of its branches. The remains of the tree pose no risk to public safety and no threat to the environment.
Because the tree resides two feet south of the side walk and not two feet north on the Kirkland’s property, the city decided that it can remove this rejuvenated shoe tree of life, this powerful symbol of strength for one family at the most difficult time.
Please help! The tree represents so much of the love and support that Betty Anne's friends and family share with her and to remove the shoe tree would negatively impact her health, spirit and quality of life.
Please join our petition. Save the Shoe Tree!
Thank you for your support.
