Rachel Allison started this petition to The City of Paris Tennessee and

Paris, Tennessee is a town of full of very passionate people who love their town.  Even though we are considered to be in the Old South, I have faith that we can move forward and be more progressive as the world continues to unite people and let go of old ways.

The biggest problem I see with my hometown is that in the heart of the town square sits a large statue symbolizing the Confederate soldiers that once fought on our land.  It is high time we stop glorifying these men who fought for their right to have slaves.  This statue sets us back centuries and needs to be removed in order to better reunite all of our communities.

The biggest problem with old Southern heritage is that people believe that the Confederates are a sign of "Southern pride" which in reality it is symbolizing racism, the slavery of black men and women, and segregation.  It is time we move past this and look to the future and I believe taking down this statue is the first move.

Please sign and remember that "tradition" is just peer pressure from dead people.
