I live in Brooklyn, close to Vinegar Hill and in Gent, Belgium. In many cities in Belgium the 'Belgian Block Streets' are disappearing fast. In Gent we have been able to conserve the Belgian Blocks in a few historic streets. I hope we can do the same in Vinegar Hill, and protect historic authenticity for the generations to come, at least in a few sites around the world!

I am a Belgian native with a lot of experience on this subject in Belgium. Public authorities seem not to care about historic aspects, even not in listed historic districts. Vinegar Hill is a New York gem. We should do everything to preserve it.

Belgian blocks slow down vehicle speed. Why replace them with asphalt and then put in the speed bumps at a large cost?

It's important to keep even old stones where they are, they give us and them a sense of place as well as history. This way, we never lose hindsight.

Don't remove the stones. Our history is also laid brick by brick.

Relacing the Belgian blocks will destroy the historical character and authenticity of the neighborhood. A travesty.

I live in Vinegar Hill and the old cobblestones are a big part of what makes the neighborhood such a unique place.

I don't like to see history being erased. I could go on but it might turn into a rant against modern government ignoring what the people want.

Preserve the original Belgian block cobblestones in Vinegar Hill. Historic preservation of our neighborhoods is paramount. Make repairs to infrastructure without destroying Brooklyn history and the legacy of our great city.

Another example of DOT Commissioner Sadik Khan reconfiguring the landscape of our historic streets with bicycle amenities that visually blight and create a dangerous mess in our neighborhoods. Sign the Change.org petition to end these ill-conceived disruptive installations:
