Save Student Agencies, Save the Corner, Not the Building!

This petition had 449 supporters

Student Agencies, an educational not-for-profit organization, has served the Ithaca and Cornell University communities for 123 years by executing its mission of providing business and entrepreneurship experiential learning opportunities to students. Each year, it employs nearly 300 student employees and pays out approximately $500,000 in student wages and compensation.  In addition, through the eLab student start-up accelerator program, it supports the entrepreneurial efforts of approximately 60 students; and, through the eHub, located in Student Agencies’ 409 College Avenue building, it provides collaboration and co-working space for more than 4,000 registered users of the space.

Student Agencies’ future is under threat.

Not funded by Cornell or by grants, Student Agencies is entirely dependent on the rental income generated by its properties. To ensure its operations for years to come, Student Agencies has planned to redevelop its 107 year old building at 411-415 College Ave into a new structure with more apartments, modern life safety systems, and an exciting outdoor space to serve as a gateway between Collegetown and Cornell.

The City of Ithaca has proposed landmarking the building.  This would not only halt all development plans, it would also ultimately require Student Agencies to repair the failing façade – a repair that will likely cost at least $700K-800K and would directly limit the ability of Student Agencies to fund its mission.

If you believe in the Student Agencies mission…

If you support experiential learning opportunities for students…

If you want a nicer and safer building at the corner of Collegetown…

If you love the outdoor patio space, which Student Agencies has committed to include in any new plans...
