Salonna Thomas started this petition to The City of Brooklyn Center

On the day of august 1st 2020 at the intersection of 54th and Morgan Ave N my 14 year old son Tywonne Hunter was severely injured while riding his mini pit bike. He was coming down the street towards his home when a pick up truck with a trailer attached to it proceeded down 54th ave headed west bound the truck collided  with my son. my son tried to slow down to avoid the truck but the truck was going to fast according to witnesses my son was knocked off his mini pit bike which caused him to go airborne of about 7ft  according to witnesses and landed on his stomach and face, he was knocked unconscious, he has lacerations to his face and body. He was rushed to the hospital by ambulance I had to take that ride with him unknown of what he may be suffering from internally I just held his hand and prayed keeping his father updated do to covid-19 which limits how many people can be at the hospital at a time. His father had to stay back with the other three children making sure they where ok and keeping strong for the family. Before this incident my son loved to be outside riding his bike, barbecuing, playing basketball, working in yard cutting grass etc. He also has a summer job that he loves going to now he cant work for the rest of the summer. I try to help him outside to get fresh air and he refuses to go outdoors he says he don't  want to sit there and not be able to interact with his family. shouldn't no parent have to go threw this horrific tragedy do to not having the proper safety signs alerting the traffic to stop before proceeding across an intersection. with the proper warning signs this incident  may have not accord. My son bruises will heal over time but his heart and mind want he will never forget what happened to him. Tywonne has to now work with the traumatic brain injury team to help his brain heal. Tywonne also has to attend therapy to get him walking again and also to prevent him from having PTSD. Me and his father are trying are best to stay strong for Tywonne while taking care of him to help him heal mentally, physically, and emotionally and also take care his siblings while trying to get through this incident that has impacted the our family. No parent or family should have to go threw this knowing that the proper signs weren't in place that might have prevented this tragic accident from happening.

The reason for my petition and sharing my story is to get help and support to get some stop signs, yield signs, kids at play, or slow down type of sign to let drivers know to slow down in these residential area I have been in this community for 10 years and seen many accidents at this same intersection and around the neighborhood we need change in are community to help make sure are kids can play safe we have no side walk so are children have no choice but to ride there bikes in the street. I believe speed bumps would be best  due to the fact that some home owners may not want signs places on there property. with the speed bumps drivers have no choice but to slow down. this method would be very helpful for are community and are children to play safely without the fear of being in an accident or severely injured. I have been told by others in the community that the city will not put stop sign's until there are three fatalities which is not fair for us in this community why not prevent this from Happening altogether. my 14 year old son could have been one of those fatalities we need change.
