Lauren Rogers started this petition to President Russel M. Nelson and

To the First Presidency of

The Church of Jesus Christ

of Latter-day Saints,

The excommunication of Natasha Helfer was unfair, unloving, and unchristlike. She has served the Mormon community faithfully, diligently, and at times, at great personal cost for almost 25 years. The work she has done in saving the lives of our youth, educating members and leaders, and making the mormon community a safer space should have been met with a debt of gratitude from the Church, not excommunication.

Consistent with the principles of repentance in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we request the Church give restitution for the grave wrong that was committed against such a Saint as Natasha Helfer. We request:

   1. the reversal of her excommunication, the transfer of her church membership records to the ward where she currently resides, and immediate, earnest ministering by the church to Natasha to try and heal the deep wounds caused by this tragic event.

   2. the reimbursement of her and her witnesses' travel expenses, to witness in a council they would not be permitted to enter.

   3. that disciplinary action (or at least an investigation) take place for the unrighteous dominion of President Daley.

At the very least, we request that Natasha be allowed to plead her case to you. She is a woman filled with Christlike love, devotion, and power. If you speak with her, you will see that.

Lastly, we request that the practice of excommunication (or withdrawal of membership) be reformed in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As it currently stands, it is a barbaric practice, it is not christlike, and it is spiritual abuse. Christ did not turn away people who wished to stay with Him:

John 6:37

All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out

We thank you for considering the voice of the people as you take these matters to the Lord. It is our sincerest desire that Natasha receive just and fair reparation. We plead with you to use your power to apply the healing balm of Christ to Natasha’s and all of our wounds by considering the aforementioned requests.
