Why this petition matters

Started by Chethan Raj B

Dear friends,

The department of Collegiate education, Karnataka has issued a circular asking the teaching faculty to attend to the colleges from May 4th which also happens to be the third phase of lockdown in order to contain the spread of the deadly Covid-19. It is a known fact that educational institutions don't fall under the essentials list. The circular from the ministry for home affairs clearly states that no educational institutions should be opened till the end of lockdown. As per the circular of the state government, all the colleges in the orange and green zones must start functioning in the absence of the students.

So far, the faculty have been taking online classes and other related activities so that there is a constructive use of the lockdown period. The latest circular will add to the unnecessary movement of the faculty which may prove fatal to the nation with 40k cases already. This will add pressure to the medical fraternity and could aggravate the spread of virus. It is a very risky decision as the nation is already reeling under the impact of Covid-19 and with the stranded workers movement across the districts and states, the situation might just get out off hand.

So, we request the honourable Chief minister and the honourable Higher education minister to look into this regard and revoke the latest order.
