Appeal to release Osmania University Professor Kasim immediately!
Stop the abuse of power, violation of civil rights and oppose state violence!
Support democracy, constitutional rule of law and free speech!

Dear Friends,

We, Indian Americans, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and writers, strongly condemn the arrest of Professor C. Kasim, who is the newly elected General Secretary of Revolutionary Writers’ Association (popularly known as Virasam in Telugu speaking states) and a Telugu Professor at Osmania University, by the Telangana Police in a fabricated case.

Professor Kasim is a revolutionary writer, Dalit literary scholar, Ambedkarite, and prominent public speaker. Since the inception of the Telangana statehood struggle, he has been a social activist and a leader among students and youth. He is also an editor of a Telugu monthly magazine, Nadusthuna Telangana. Through his writings and public engagement, Prof. Kasim has been exposing the current ruling party’s i.e. Telangana Rastra Samiti (TRS) lopsided development policies and challenging its neo-feudal attitude and oppressive measures. In order to mask the government’s failures in employment creation and the promotion of sustainable development, the TRS government has been resorting to police violence and suppressing all dissenting voices.

The TRS party continues to support the Central government led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is responsible for legislating the unconstitutional and discriminatory Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the abolition of Article 370. The TRS party is complicit in the fascist acts of BJP, violation of human rights, attacks on universities, Dalit-Bahujan communities and Muslim minorities.

In the context of state violence against public intellectuals, writers, and social activists, we humbly appeal all democratic forces to condemn all illegal arrests in the state of Telangana, and demand their immediate release. Your voice matters and your solidarity to civil rights and constitutional governance shapes public opinion for democracy and prevents abuse of power. Condemn the arrest of Prof. Kasim and demand his immediate release.
