Harrison Mumia started this petition to Dr. Patrick Njoroge (Central Bank of Kenya)

Background

This petition aims to highlight the fact that despite the freedom of expression and speech being enshrined in our Constitution, Kenyans still face persecution based on political opinions on Social Media.

I have been sacked from the service of the Bank for tweets that appeared on my handle @harrisonmumia

I was employed at the Central Bank of Kenya in 2007. I have been working as an employee for at the bank for the past 11 years. I received a letter of suspension (Show cause why) from the bank in February 2018 asking me to explain some tweets on my personal handle (@harrisonmumia). Following a lengthy disciplinary process which included an appeal, I was finally dismissed from the service of the bank on the 11th January, 2019. At the point of termination of employment in June 2018, I stopped receiving my salary.

It is unacceptable that the CBK is engaging in a vicious witch hunt targeting those who hold political views on Social Media. The management of the Bank should must stop gagging employees opinions on Social Media. All Kenyans are entitled to an opinion.

SIGN THIS PETITION if you believe that no Kenyan should ever be sacked for holding a political opinion on Social Media.
