Expand Eligibility for PR for Refugee Claimants Working in Health Care During Pandemic.
Why this petition matters
We , the residents of Canada pray that Canadian Government expand the eligibility for the special measures for asylum claimants working in health sector during pandemic. We also pray the government to make certain asylum claimants eligible for the economic immigration programs. As Canada is working towards a quick post-pandemic economic growth and recovery through an economic focused immigration drive, we pray the Canadian House of Commons and the Immigration Minister to look into the economic immigration pool among the asylum claimants who worked in essential services during the Covid 19.
We appreciate the kind gesture of the government in creating a pathway to permanent residency to some asylum claimants who worked as front line workers between March 2020 and August 2020. We also pray the government to extend the 120 hours eligibility beyond August 14, 2020 due to the second wave of Covid 19. We pray the government to equally consider those asylum claimants who worked in other services than the health sector during this period for some economic immigration programs like Provincial Nominee Program, Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program and the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot Program. Many of the asylum claimants have the robust academic qualifications, the work experience and the required language proficiency for the economic immigration programs, but the only obstacle for them is that they do not have the temporary residence status required for the in-Canada economic immigration application.
Making these asylum claimants eligible for the economic immigration programs would assist Canada in meeting her immediate economic growth and target without compromising the health and safety of Canadians. This category of the asylum claimants in the domestic immigration pool are already working in Canada and they have been economically established. Some of them have entrepreneurial skills to create jobs in Canada if given the opportunity to be Canadian citizens. Granting them permanent residency would afford them the opportunity to further explore the boundless entrepreneurial opportunities that exist across the length and breath of Canada so that they can contribute their quota towards assisting Canada achieve her both short-term and the long-term economic targets.
