Jai Verma started this petition to Uddhav Balasahed Thackeray (CM, Maharashtra) and

Dear Sir/Madam,

This is to bring to your notice a sudden change of climate that Mumbai has been facing for quite a while. Sorry to say but Mumbai has been a big contribution to global warming. I kindly suggest setting some rules that will at least make a difference in Mumbai, if not the world.

Firstly, we should Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. The 3 R’s help us in receiving materials without damaging the environment. This rule with most definitely lead to a positive change.

Secondly, we should inculcate the use of paper or eco-friendly bags.

Paper bags reduce the chance of negative climate change since they will cooperate with the present environment. This is a proven way to reduce climate change. I would like to add that even though you have banned the usage of plastic bags, it is still available in the market and people are using it! They are not following the rules! I kindly request you to make the rule stricter.

Thirdly, we can plant more. The trees help in decreasing CO2 (Carbon Dioxide), and they bring greenery and beauty to the world. We can make it interesting by making this a '#PlantMoreTrees' challenge which will create a chain by planting a tree and nominating your friends to plant the trees and nominating further. This chain can and will help increase the greenery around the world.

There is one thing that I learned in my Social Studies class, we watched a video that was giving us updates on how the government is handling global warming in the Lakshadweep Islands. There it stated that the government is asking the Lakshadweep government employees to come to work on cycles every Wednesday. We can replicate this for employees living within 5 kilometres of their offices.

These suggestions will positively change our environment. I humbly request you to turn these suggestions into rules for us Mumbaikars to follow.

Yours Faithfully,

Jai Verma, 10 years.
