Immigrant students are not one size fits all. Give Lafayette High School more time and more resources to support these students.

Buffalo receives over 2000 refugees per year. Adolescent immigrant students arrive to the US, must learn English, and pass the same NYS Regents Examinations that Americans must pass. This, in spite of the fact that many of the immigrant students have had interrupted education at some point in their lives, while fleeing their war torn countries.
When NYSED and the Buffalo Board of Education call Lafayette High School a failing school, it is only because students are trying to learn K-12 in 4 years. With over 500 English Language Learners and 43 languages spoken, it is the most diverse school in New York State.
We need more time and more resources for immigrant students who simply want to make a better life here in Buffalo.
