It would appear that the The Premier League, English Football League and Professional Footballers’ Association are in talks regarding a possible collective agreement on wage deferrals.  These talks may lead to an approach to the UK Government to seek financial support to pay the wages of their staff.

The UK Government has agreed that during the Covid-19 pandemic those in employment with 'proper jobs' will be be paid by the UK Government up to £80K per annum, for the self-employed the payment will be capped at £50K.

These highly-paid footballers, managers and others in the sport are in a far more secure position than millions of others in this Country and are better placed to carry the greatest burden and therefore must be the first to do so.

Some in the sport have given much support to the NHS and other areas of society, those footballers, some being paid more per week, then many earn per annum must do the same.

The Government must deny any assistance until these fooballers and other highly paid staff accept a voluntary pay reduction to £80K per annum.  They must follow the lead of footballers from Barcelona FC who have taken a voluntarily pay cut of 70%, players at Juventus had made a similar offer.
