Julian Samuels started this petition to The British Museum and

Petition to the British Museum Trustees to raise awareness and educate in recognition of the Black Roman Emperor statue to illustrate a true depiction of Septimius Severus Septimius Severus, full named Lucius Septimius Severus Pertinax, (born April 11, 145/146, Leptis Magna, Tripolitania [now in Libya]—Roman province of Africa.

As a young man he advanced through the customary succession of offices under the reigns of Marcus Aurelius and Commodus who appointed him died Feb. 4, 211 in Eboracum, Britain [now York, England.]), Roman emperor from 193 to 211. He founded a personal dynasty and converted the government into a military monarchy. Septimius Severus major accomplishments was in reforming the military and getting rid of the Praetorian Guard. He was the son of Marcus Aurelius and gave his son Antoninus the title of Caesar.

Septimus Severus came to London in AD 208 having heard the cries of the King of England for help in the battles with the North with members of his army where he helped strengthen Hadrian's wall and actually build the walls of London which are present today.

The busk depicted of Septimius Severus AD 193-211 on the entrance to the British Museum must be correctly represented given Black British Society acknowledgement of the existing of one of, if not the greatest Emperor who reigned and resided in Britain as history depicts it. He was the first African-born Roman emperor. He came to Rome shortly after turning 18 years old and Marcus Aurelius made him a senator who went on to become Emperor of Rome.

The depiction and cultral representation is an important part of Britain's Black history and the legacy of Septimius Severus must be correctly represented given our acknowledgement of the existing statues and duly noted references in the British Museum of one of, if not the greatest Emperor who reigned and resided in Britain (York) and successfully defended Britain from the North. The wall he instructed to build to protect from invaders is still present today on the perimeters of the centre of the City of London which should be commemorated and his history of past historical events acknowledged.
