Repeal the Axis Development

As a local teen resident in this city I am very afraid of the rising housing prices and the growing amount of people being displaced in this city. The Calle 24 Latino Cultural District has nearly 700 units of luxury units coming near and within its boundaries. The district was set up to help with the effects of gentrification and displacement and to preserve our cultural assets that include small mom and pop shops, arts organizations, cultural events, murals and our vulnerable populations. By having this building project on Folsom street it threatens the way of life of the Mission and negates the fact that we need more affordable housing and not luxury units which only encourages more people to move in and gentrify our neighborhood. The project is already delayed but more can be done. By pressuring the committtee more on this issue it may help them recosinder the harm that this project does for our local communites. Although repealing the building of these luxury units may not happen only pushing pressure on how unfavorable this building project is will only make sure that the EIR appeal will actually happen and that they will take reconsideration for those already living here.
