Piercings and hair dye are forms of self-expression, in the same way as hairstyles and hair cuts are.

A uniform differs in that once school is finished it can be taken off and students can express themselves outside through the clothes they wear. Hair dye and piercings are not the same as they cannot be changed as easily. By imposing rules on hair dye and piercings schools are limiting students ability to self-express outside and inside of school.

A students education should not be effected by their choice of self-expression. As it stands schools can punish students breaking these rules by sending them home or suspending them. Which ultimately has a negative affect on a students education.

Schools should be creating an environment where everybody feels accepted, not just those perceived to be "normal".
