While students in Orleans Parish have continued to make overall gains in student achievement , Boys and Young Men of Color (BMOC) still lag behind their counterparts. We feel that schools that are created to protect the intellectual and emotional lives of boys will move us in the right direction.
The Delores Taylor Arthur School for Young Men has three very important goals: First, proficiency in Literacy and Math by 3rd Grade must be achieved. Second, our young men will have the skills necessary to compete in higher education and/or in the workplace. Finally, our young men will graduate and do so on time.
We offer an environment where there are high expectations yet the necessary support for students to meet them. A robust menu of co curricular activities including speech and music will be built around the compelling research that these activities encourage at -risk students to remain in school and graduate at high rates. Our partnerships with a number of successful national organizations and universities will present opportunities for our young men that will catapult them to success.
There is no more important time than now to create a school that focuses in on at-risk males and provide them with an education that will position them to be productive men in their communities. For more information, please visit us on Facebook or reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org
