Petitioning The Board of Alderman of the City of Newton Mississippi
This petition will be delivered to:
The Board of Alderman of the City of Newton Mississippi

Step Down from their positions and hand over their Letters of Resignation

To all the concerned citizens of Newton....It wasn't until this afternoon that I was informed that if you want to speak at the Board Meeting and have your name on the agenda to do so that you have to submit that in writing a week prior to said meeting. I contacted our Mayor by phone as he was unavailable at City Hall. I asked the Mayor when this policy had been implemented and was it published in the paper so that our community would have that knowledge and his response was that he made this decision a meir two weeks ago and that is was a verbal policy implemented between the Board and himself and that it was not made known publicly via newspaper or any other source. This recent decision and the lack of communication between a Board (which is in a position to represent us as citizens) in itself is just one of many decisions clearly showing the irresponsibility of their duties to respresent and theoretically be the voice of the citizens of Newton. Now I ask you, is this the caliber of "representatives" you want making decisions on your behalf and the behalf of the community as a whole? After a respectable and fairly lengthy conversation with our Mayor, he did decide to allow me five minutes to present a "petition" to him and the Board voicing my concerns about The current Representation (or the lack thereof) by our existing Board Members. Given recent events and all the circumstances surrounding said events, we are calling into question the integrity, morals, and decisions that The Board has control over. The Board of Newton has recently made decisions that has left the taxpayers of Newton in a vulnerable and unsafe position by removing Fully Qualified, Competent, and Highly Dedicated individuals solely based on the facts unknown by the community because the Board decided to make this decision by calling an Executive Session; therefore, not allowing the community to know all the facts. Then proceeded to replace them with a "barely half way qualified" individual. (as stated word for word by our Mayor during our phone conversation) Yet another example of their lack of concern for the citizens of Newton. The first concern of our Board of Alderman and the Mayor should be the Health and Safety of the citizens of Newton and their most recent decisions has proven otherwise. I would like to ask that anyone and everyone join together for the support of our community and the future safety of our community by attending the Board Meeting tomorrow evening at 5:15p.m. on the steps of Newton City Hall. It is imperative that "We The People" let our voice be heard and our concerns be addressed. Thanking you in advance for your support and cooperation.

Thank You,

Donna Davidson
