Russia has invaded Ukraine, violating international law and legally binding agreements it signed in the past. Civilians are being killed in large numbers including with cluster munitions and other weapons which are banned under the Geneva Convention. All countries need to show their support for Ukraine however they can.

Barbados joined 140 other countries and voted at the UN to condemn Russia’s invasion but it should now step up the pressure. We may not have many opportunities open to us to show our disgust for what Russia is doing but the news that there is a regular Russian owned Volga-Dnepr cargo plane visiting Barbados gives some small leverage. We should join the close to 40 countries that have banned Russian flights from entering their airspace until Russia withdraws from Ukraine.
