Fewer than one of three jobs in the Baltimore region can now be reached within 90 minutes.   (Baltimore Neighborhood Indicators Alliance/Jacob France Inst. - 2015)

With your support, we can energize the political and popular will throughout Maryland and in the legislature in Annapolis to allocate funds for the Red Line project. Governor Hogan cancelled the project despite the disparate impact of his decision on communities of color and low income and transit-dependent households. The Red Line met federal and state approval after thirteen (13) years of planning. Governor Hogan returned $900 million in federal funds and spent $1.0 billion in state funds on roads and highway projects in rural areas of the state. His projects were not high-priority investments.

This grass roots movement can only grow in relevance as Maryland comes to grips with the vast loss occasioned by the cancellation of the $3.0 billion Red Line project in 2015.

Benefits of the Red Line include:
   o Reduced commute times
   o 10,000 jobs
o Reliable, east - west (Bayview to Woodlawn) multi-modal connectivity
o Proven boost to regional economic development
o Access to an additional 250,000 jobs in the Baltimore metropolitan region
o Transit oriented development with affordable housing

Completion of the Red Line is a generational opportunity and must not be lost. Just as importantly, the Red Line permits Baltimore to collectively renounce its historic segregationist underinvestment in low-income and transit-dependent communities. A light rail transit network anchored by the Red Line that will expand throughout central Maryland is the key to the city’s and state’s economic future.
