Stop reverse mortgage proposals to pay for nursing home firetraps
This petition had 65 supporters
The Australian Government is considering proposals that people needing aged care (in home or residential care) should have to sell or reverse mortgage their homes to pay for it. No exceptions.
Simultaneously, Fire and Rescue NSW has found that two thirds of the state's nursing homes are basically firetraps without sprinkler systems.
Under proposals the family home will be included in the means test for aged care. You will pay up to $60,000 for your care costs. You will pay 100% of your accommodation costs if you go into a nursing home - there is no maximum - and you will pay $634.62 a fortnight for living expenses or 84% of your pension.
As Federal Ageing Minister, Mark Butler, ponders his response to the Productivity Commission's proposals the time to voice your concerns is now!
Act now to stop the flogging of the family home!
