Neil Hunt started this petition to The Honorable Scott Morrison (Prime Minister of Australia)

After the shocking raids on a News Corporation journalist's home, followed by the appalling raids on the ABC, both by the Australian Federal Police in relation to "secret" information related to our involvement in Afghanistan for the ABC, and a story that alleged new powers, if adopted, would go to the Australian Signals Directorate to secretly access bank records, emails and text messages. Before all that, though, there was the disgraceful treatment of "Witness K", when he had his passport seized so that he couldn't travel to The Hague to give information about the wire tapping of the East TImor embassy in relation to the control of massive oil deposits.  It is now time that Australia needs an equivalent to the United States' First Amendment.  Australia does not have a legal Freedom of Speech, or the Press, and this must now be changed.

I am a writer, mainly of short stories, but even if it's only on one of my blogs, I, too, can be raided by the Australian Federal Police if I share information that I received as part of my security clearance.  This is WRONG!

It is way past time where Australia needs a legal ability to say or write what we want, and not be silenced by the Australian Government.  I always liked the saying, in relation to hate speech, that "I don't agree with what you're saying, but I support your right to say it".
