Why wasn't there the traditional gunfire salute at the Anzac Day dawn service?

I have been attending the Anzac Day dawn service at the Shrine of Rememberance for about 10 years now, before that I attended my local dawn services and always look forward to the gunfire salute during the hyme Abide with Me. But when it did not happen this morning, I and a lot of people around me were really disappointed and bewildered as to why.
After searching social media, google searching and contacting the Shrine via Facebook after the Service, I was informed by someone at the Shrine, that the goverment had put a ban on this tradition.
I know I am not the only one that would like an explanation as to why this has happened, is nothing sacred anymore.
