All charges dropped against St.Catharines Vet Dr. Mahavir Singh Rekhi!
It's a decision that has outraged Ontario citizens!
From NewsTalk 610 CKTB
Bonnie Heslop .
“All charges have been dropped against the controversial St. Catharines vet who was facing 16 criminal counts of animal cruelty.
Doctor Mahavir Rekhi, the owner of Skyway Animal Hospital on Welland Ave. was facing eight counts of causing unnecessary pain or suffering to an animal and eight counts of failing to provide suitable and adequate care for an animal.
His lawyers were in court this morning when it was announced that the Crown has withdrawn all charges.
The Crown's lawyer saying that since the OSPCA went to the College of Vets for information rather than the other way around Rekhi is protected by the Charter.
The lawyer says since the OSPCA started the investigation and received a warrant without a complaint, Rekhi should not have been charged regardless of public outrage surrounding the case and since the College of Vets already took disciplinary action that should be all he gets.
The College of Veterinarians of Ontario suspended him for ten months for professional misconduct in August of 2016.
He was ordered to pay the college $10,000, be retrained to properly restrain animals, and is subject to three unannounced inspections each year for two years.
His suspension was cut down to six months after he completed the retraining program and prepared a paper about what he has learned.
Dr. Rekhi returned to work in February at the Welland Ave. clinic.
Kevin Strooband, an Officer with the OSPCA from the Lincoln County Humane Society tells CKTB the media alerted him to the videos that were released publicly, and he acted.
Strooband compares this situation to a police officer who stumbles across a body, saying of course the officer would launch an investigation.
He says he brought all of the evidence to the Crown, and they agreed charges were warranted.
The disgraced vet was not there in person today, but 20 protestors wearing shirts saying 'Animals don't have a voice so you will never stop hearing me' expressed disgust and disappointment as the crown withdrew the charges.
It was last year CTV News Toronto first aired shocking video of Dr.Rekhi abusing animals in his care.”
This is not to be tolerated. How can someone who has been shown to abuse animals be allowed to go free?? Where is the justice, where is the compassion for animals? Where are there sane people who can make the charges stick?
What justice has there been for the former employees who put their jobs on the line to expose this abuse?
Since the OSPCA started the investigation and received a warrant without a complaint, Rekhi should not have been charged . Kevin Strooband of the OSPCA is supposed to know the procedure to secure the warrant and complaint and in his words " it takes time to do this properly". His words mean nothing ! Does he have it in writing that The Crown accepted the videotape evidence and he did not have to file a formal complaint before he started the investigation? Show us ! Don't tell us ! If the truth comes out that he did not perform the duties of his job to effect the sticking of the criminal charges , he should be removed from the OSPCA, so I am also naming the OSPCA in this petition.
"The Ontario SPCA's mission is to facilitate and provide for province-wide leadership on matters relating to the prevention of cruelty to animals and the promotion of animal welfare.
The vision of the Ontario SPCA is to be the recognized authority on animal welfare issues and making a measurable difference for animals. Based on the evidence found, after a very thorough investigation, the Society proceeded with charges against the accused. A Crown reviewed the charges and analyzed how the evidence was gathered during that process. We stand behind those charges and advocated for prosecution. We are disappointed to learn that the Crown has chosen to withdraw those charges.
If you wish to voice your concerns to the Crown, you can contact the Ministry of the Attorney General of Ontario Mr. Yasir Naqvi

The OSPCA is not walking the talk! The Crown is not walking the talk,The CVO did not walk the talk by holding onto the videotaped evidence for 2 years prompting the whistleblowers to take it to the media.
Please sign and share this petition and post it all over social media because we will not ever be silenced until this abuser’s business is shut down and he loses his licence to practice forever and if found derelict in his duty Kevin Strooband needs to be removed from the OSPCA!
